Amidst of all the police brutality situations in Black America today…we must learn to put ourselves in a position to win.
How many times must we see the same situations occurring with the police being caught on camera using excessive force or deadly force? There far too many times we as black people are continuously the victim or trending topic on social media and news of police brutality stories. Today more than ever these incidents are caught on camera or a piece of it is caught on camera showing one of two situations the police using overkill in a situation that didn’t need it. Or you have a situation where we as black people are being unwilling to cooperate fully with law enforcement. Both the situations lead to sometimes tragedy or something that both side regret what has taken place.
When will we learn? How we begin to put ourselves a position to win?
First we must learn to respect life for all mankind. You see this everyday with our President Barak Obama; never have I ever witnessed in my life people with so much disrespect for our leader. Whether you voted for him or not respect that fact he is our choice by the majority to lead our country… you can disagree with someone and still respect them. You see we have to learn how to respect each; especially those in a position of authority.
We see the level of disrespect at all time high today from judges, to principals, teachers and law enforcement being disrespected. Even just a week ago I witnessed in the media a high school principal being picked up and body slammed by a student. We see kids with their parents kids talking back and being sassy to their parents. Where and when did we pick up this rebellious attitude?
My guess is hard to say or put my finger on it but change has to start with each individual being accountable for their actions. There is no secret that the majority of police officers and people in general all prejudge to some degree. You I last talked about who and what you are listening to. Which means prejudice is a learn habit… Being rebellious is a learned habit. In other words…monkey see…monkey do. We do what we see others do and say. The people you choose to be around…can very well determined the outcome of who you become, how you view authorities and how you view yourself as well. Which means if we view authority figures as all bad or we view all citizens who are black as guilty or untrustworthy then we have no trust or respect for one another. This leads to bad but tragic events. I truly believe that all this can be avoided. We must learn to put ourselves in position to win!
Tips on how to put yourself in a position to win:
1.) Think before you react or say the wrong thing to authorize individuals who are in charge. This can save a lot clashing at work too.
2.) Know the downs and situations. This is my football coaching terms I used back in my teaching and coaching days. I often say this can work for all people. Basically you need to be aware of your surroundings, know who you dealing with(i.e. Police, teachers, type of personalities); you need figure out what type situation you’re in quite quickly. Think and know how to react properly to the situation. Think about your life!
3.) Always be respectful to all people and you will get it back the majority of time. You will know when someone crosses the line.
4.) Use good judgment …sound judgment in all situations. Poor judgments can be detrimental.
5.) Most of a think before you say or do anything that you may later regret.
*As for law enforcement we know how they can be at times…just don’t put yourself in a position to lose. Your life isn’t worth losing at the hands of someone else. Always see value in yourself.
